A dozen clubs related to gender and race were cut at West Point Military Academy.
A memorandum obtained by News 12 called for the shutdown of clubs, including, the Society of Women Engineers, the Latin Cultural Club and an LGBTQ+ support group.
Academy leaders say cutting the groups complies with President Donald Trump's executive orders and guidance from the defense and army departments.
Former professor and faculty advisory at West Point Military Academy Diane Ryan says the move is upsetting.
"It made me sad for the people who won't get to have these kinds of experiences," Ryan said.
The academy says all trips, meetings and activities associated with the designated clubs have been canceled.
