The push to vaccinate more
first responders in Westchester is getting a major boost as Westchester
Community College is set to become a COVID-19 vaccination site.
With more COVID-19 vaccine doses expected to be allocated to local
governments in the coming weeks, Westchester County officials made the
move to set up a new vaccination site later today.
WCC officials have converted their Physical Education building into a
temporary vaccination facility and plan on being open six days a week. They
have established a process to separate those first responders coming onto
campus for the vaccine from students and employees.
The county says no other eligible groups will be able
to make an appointment to get a shot at the college.
The feeling is this expansion at the college will help with the
distribution of the second doses and keep the first doses moving along at the
Westchester County Center. "We are now facing giving out
second shots to those people who at our county clinic, three and four weeks
ago, received their first shot and so now we need to have additional
space," says Westchester County Executive George Latimer.
No first responder is permitted on campus for a vaccine without an
appointment.
