Lines are moving quickly and flights are taking off on time at Westchester County Airport. All signs are pointing to a positive travel experience out of the airportfor the Fourth of July weekend.

"The convenience, the parking, no long lines, it's way better than LaGuardia and Kennedy," Mount Vernon father Darrell Hayes said as he and his two children were prepared to board to Orlando for the long weekend.

Wednesday is predicted to be the busiest day for travelers ahead of the four-day break for the Fourth of July.

The mood at the airport is a great sign compared to some of the larger area airports which are seeing more delays, according to flight tracking service FlightAware.

"It's a little busier not bad," Tammy Fox said alongside her daughter Layla, 9, after dropping their bags off Wednesday morning.

"This is in and out," Joe Tomas said while waiting outside to pick his son up from his arriving flight from Florida.

There is more volume at Westchester County Airport compared to a typical Wednesday which makes sense. According to AAA, flight travel this weekend is expected to be up about 7% compared to last year, and 12% more than 2019.

One possible reason? Tickets for a domestic flight this year are 2% cheaper than Independence Day weekend in 2023.

Travel experts still recommend flying carry-on only if possible, and getting to the airport at least two hours ahead of your boarding time for domestic flights.
