Westchester County launched a new program in an effort to bridge the digital divide and achieve digital equity.

Connect Westchester will provide essential digital resources, education, and affordable internet access to low-income residents.

According to officials about 45,000 Westchester residents do not own a computer and 75,000 fail to have at-home internet access.

They said, "Cellphones are not the same as full screen keyboard devices, so one of the things this program is going to do is help people who that’s the only need they have, we're going to provide a solution which is Chromebooks."

The county’s new digital literacy and access initiative will provide residents help with free laptops, internet services, as well as training through the federal government's Affordable Connectivity Program.

County officials say this is the largest digital literacy county-wide program in New York state.
