Westchester County officials were joined by the county's LGBTQ advisory board and the LOFT to bring awareness to the Transgender Day of Visibility.
The county encouraged county employees and local businesses to create a community of acceptance and support through actions such as informing others of preferred personal pronouns.
County Executive George Latimer said in a release, “Everyone deserves to have their identity and personhood respected in the workplace. This is a simple way to show we care about and respect others.”
Mia Edwards of the LOFT community center believes being true to herself outweighs negative attention.
"I stand tall as other trans folks and show other trans folks they are not alone,” says Edwards.
Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated annually on March 31.
