A Westchester Medical Center doctor is in Ukraine, performing life-altering surgeries on injured Ukrainian solders and teaching techniques to local surgeons there.
Dr. Augustine Moscatello spoke to News 12 from Lviv Monday in between facial reconstruction surgeries.
This is the second time that the Westchester Medical Center ear, nose and throat doctor has traveled to the war-torn country to volunteer.
News 12 spoke to him after his last visit in the fall - this time he's at a military hospital.
"It's a great feeling when you see the look on people's faces after you provide a service that they know they wouldn't have gotten if someone from another country did not come," says Dr. Moscatello.
He is part of a team of international doctors. They'll perform more than 30 surgeries on Ukrainian soldiers before leaving this Saturday, all while training Ukrainian surgeons their reconstructive techniques.
