A surprise inspection by the Westchester Health Department appears to have cleared a North Castle restaurant as being the source of a local rat infestation.
That report, released on Friday, found no violations at Casa Mary restaurant on North Broadway.
The inspectors observed enclosed rodenticide traps, the dumpster closed and in good condition and no evidence of an infestation in the back parking lot area.
On Tuesday, Aug. 14, News 12 visited Palmer Avenue in the North White Plains section of town and met with a woman who said she spent more than $1,000 to kill nearly 100 rodents on her property in three weeks.
She said it destroyed her quality of life and made her home unsafe. She added that her neighbors were dealing with similar but smaller infestations.
The woman blamed the infestation on the North Broadway Gulf gas station that neighbors her property. News 12 visited the gas station and saw several dead rodents as well as half a dozen traps in the back parking area.
Despite this, the owner claimed the infestation was stemming from the next-door restaurant Casa Mary.
A man who identified himself as a managerial level employee at the restaurant denied having a rodent issue and provided News 12 with routine annual inspection reports. That same day, two Westchester County health inspectors made a surprise visit to the business.
Neighbors said the issue is still ongoing and are continuing to press for accountability.
