The Westchester County Board of Legislators voted in favor Monday of ending the use of offensive language in the law books.
The board says it wants to replace archaic language in county laws relating to people with developmental and intellectual disabilities and mental illness.
They say the move is long overdue and they're working on ways to best approach the sensitive subject.
They are looking to use person-centered language, putting people before their disabilities.
These changes were made at the state and federal levels back in 2010.
