Westchester officials, community leaders team up to improve child well-being

County officials and community members gathered at the Greenburgh Public Library Wednesday for the Westchester Children's Association's second annual "Commissioners' Conversation on Children."
The event focused on the preliminary release of the WCA's "2024 Community Snapshots," a biannual report examining statistics on children and families by school district in Westchester County, with a particular focus on low-income and minority families.
The report highlights a concerning trend: nearly 10% of children in the county live in poverty, with nearly 20% of those being Black children and 15% being Hispanic children.
In response, county officials from departments including Social Services, Community Mental Health, Health, Probation, and Workforce Development shared their strategies to improve the lives of Westchester's children, youth, and young adults.
"The focus is on how Westchester has a very diverse population and how they plan on improving their living situation," said one attendee.
