Police in several Westchester cities are dealing with an uptick in gun
violence.
There has
been a string of shootings in the past week, some of them fatal.
Thursday, at about 10:30 a.m., a man in
his early 20s was fatally shot
outside a home on South 8th Avenue in
Mount Vernon. Police have not released the victim's name but News 12 has
learned he lived in the neighborhood. Investigators are still searching for a
suspect.
Just this past weekend,
there were three separate shootings just hours apart in New Rochelle.
One shooting Saturday night at Horton
Avenue and Brook Street left a 29-year-old Brooklyn man dead and four other men injured. A
$10,000 reward is now being offered by the Westchester County DA and the FBI
for information that leads to an arrest in the case. They've also released video of a car turning
onto Memorial Highway. Investigators say the vehicle may be connected to the
fatal shooting.
And it was just last
Thursday when a 6-year-old Yonkers boy was struck in the shoulder by gunfire
during a shooting between teenagers.
Understandably the shootings have many on edge and
frustrated. "It takes the community to tie in for the fight due gun
violence to be fully effective. It's going to take us all, as a collective, to
stop it," says Henry Terry, of
Mount Vernon SNUG.
