County, city and school officials gathered at Eastview Middle School in White Plains Friday morning to plant a red maple tree to memorialize Rebecca and Harry Bright.
Harry Bright was a high school gym teacher, the first African American to serve on the White Plains Common Council and the city's human rights commissioner.
Rebecca Bright was a beloved Eastview middle school art teacher.
Both were active members of the community.
A tree is planted at one of the city's public schools each year in honor of those who have given back to the community.
This year marks the White Plains Beautification Foundation's 41st annual Arbor Day Celebration.
Rebecca Bright died last May, and Harry Bright died last August.
