State police say a road-rage incident involving an off-duty Kingston police officer in the Town of Wawayanda escalated into a shooting Wednesday afternoon, leaving one man critically injured.

Troopers from the Middletown barracks responded around 3:45 p.m. to a reported shooting on Dolsontown Road near the intersection of McVeigh Road, according to the New York State Police.

Investigators say the incident involved a 2020 Volkswagen and a 2021 Toyota pickup truck and unfolded over approximately 1 mile of roadway.

State police identified the driver of the Volkswagen as Wallace F. Fisher, 31, of Middletown. Police say Fisher exited his vehicle and approached the driver’s side window of the pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup was identified as Anthony Simon, 33, an off-duty Kingston police officer.

News 12 has confirmed with an official source that witness video recorded by a motorist shows the confrontation between the two drivers. The video shows Fisher approaching the pickup truck, a heated verbal exchange, and Fisher appearing to lunge and swing his arm toward the driver’s side window.

Moments later, Simon is seen firing multiple shots. Fisher is then seen falling to the ground in the middle of the roadway, while Simon exits the pickup truck.

State police say Fisher brandished a knife during the altercation. He was shot and initially transported to Garnet Health Medical Center before being transferred to Westchester Medical Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
