The woman accused of driving drunk and killing two people on the Southern State Parkway on Sunday night entered a plea of not guilty Tuesday morning.
Diana Kutateladze, 36, appeared in a Hempstead courtroom Tuesday morning in a wheelchair and hospital gown to be arraigned on multiple charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter.
According to police, Kutateladze hit multiple cars, seriously injuring her husband in the passenger seat, and killing two people - Donald Maxwell, 82, and Liscent Maxwell, 88.
Court documents say her husband suffered from a brain bleed, femur fractures and broken ribs, requiring surgery.
Court documents say Kutateladze admitted to consuming alcohol and operating the vehicle at that time.
Prosecutors say Kutateladze had a blood alcohol level of .10.
The judge ordered she be held behind bars without bail.
The defense argued that she’s a mother and has close ties to the community and has no criminal record.
The family of the victims declined to comment after the arraignment.
