Police say a woman in her 50’s was killed Wednesday night in a head-on crash during heavy rain on Route 32, near Trout Brook Road in Woodbury.
Authorities say the woman was a passenger in a van being driven by her husband. Their vehicle hydroplaned around a turn and struck a pick-up truck at approximately 8:30 p.m., police say.
The woman suffered multiple broken bones and other significant injuries, and was trapped inside the vehicle, according to police. They say she succumbed to her injuries during rescue efforts.
Police say her husband was also significantly injured, and as of midday Thursday was in an induced coma. He has not been able to be notified of his wife’s death, therefore authorities are not releasing the woman’s name at this time. They say the couple's adult son was notified of his mother's death.
The victim's family are identifying the woman as Delfina Mejia. They've started a GoFundMe for funeral expenses and are seeking help sending her remains back to her native country of Mexico.
Police say the driver in the pick-up truck had minor injuries.
