Women seriously injured in Easter night attacks in Newburgh stabbed multiple times, according to family

Relatives say Donnie Smith had been upset with his mother after she said he couldn’t live with her and claim police were called to the residence the night before the attacks.

A family member of the women seriously injured in an Easter night stabbing in the city of Newburgh now tell News 12 one of the victims may be permanently paralyzed as a result.

They say Jeanette Francis and her relative Lisa Williams were each stabbed approximately 12 times by Francis’ son, 32-year-old Donnie Smith.

Smith is charged with attempted murder in the attacks inside Francis’ residence on Dubois Street. Family say his mom was stabbed in the spine and is in an induced coma.

Prosecutors say Smith is a three-time felon. The case is expected to be reviewed by a grand jury on Friday.
