Major changes may be coming to the way commuters access MTA transit.
The MTA is working on a plan to phase out MetroCards beginning in 2017.
According to the New York Times, transit officials will decide on a new payment system this year. News 12 hit the streets to ask what type of payment system Brooklyn residents would like to see in its place.
Many residents said using a smartphone could make paying for transit much easier.
Others said that not everyone has access to smartphones and those that are not tech savvy may run into major problems.
An independent consultant hired by the MTA says it should take more time to think the changes through. They say the new system can take five to 10 years to implement.
