A Yonkers man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a Yonkers store owner.
Police say Tyrese Shubrick, 21, went into the Premier Fashion clothing store on New Main Street and attempted to steal a baseball cap just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
When store owner Ruben Martinez tried to stop the theft, police say Shubrick stabbed him in the chest multiple times. Martinez later died at the hospital.
Shubrick, of Yonkers, allegedly fled the scene but was taken into custody in Elmsford within 24 hours.
He was arraigned in Yonkers City Court Thursday and charged with first-degree manslaughter.
Customers and strangers are supporting the Martinez family through a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.
