Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano is advocating for the City Council to impose an eight-month moratorium on new applications for self-storage and lithium-ion battery facilities, along with a 6-month moratorium on currently functioning facilities.

Mayor Spano wants to take this time to thoroughly examine the potential economic and public health impacts of these facilities. Additionally, the city would review its land-use and zoning laws during this period.

The proposed changes could affect more than a dozen self-storage facilities in Yonkers.

A public hearing is required to discuss the moratorium, with the last City Council meeting before the summer recess scheduled for June 25.
