Yonkers officials announced Monday that multiple people have been arrested in a “spate of gang-related shooting incidents,” including the shooting on Morris Street that killed 19-year-old Daquon Powell.

Matthew Quiones, 20, of Danbury, Connecticut was charged with second-degree murder in the Powell shooting.

According to authorities, Powell was driving a black sedan on May 31 with an 18-year-old male in the passenger seat. After stopping at 55 Morris St., “an armed assailant ran up to the driver’s window and fired six gunshots through the window, striking Powell six times and the passenger one time.”

The gunman fled the scene along with two accomplices, investigators said. They later determined that the three of them had been lying in wait in the house’s driveway for Powell to arrive and believe that the shooting is related to gang violence and that Powell was targeted for assassination.”

Police say the Morris Street shooting, one on Livingston Street in May and another on Riverdale Avenue last Sunday were all gang related.

Quinones was arraigned on June 7 and remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He’s due back in court on June 23.

Three adolescent offenders who were also arrested in connection with the shootings were remanded to a juvenile detention facility.
