Yonkers police detectives are conducting what they're calling "a death investigation" after a body was discovered in an apartment on Tuesday afternoon.
The building's second superintendent Mark Castro said he and the first superintendent received a call from the woman's mother on Tuesday afternoon for a welfare check.
The pair went inside the unit and discovered the body in her bed and called police, according to Castro.
“It just felt like tearing my heart out, crying, which I did. She was a good person, very lovely, she always had time for everybody, especially her son," said Castro.
Investigators were in and out of the apartment building at 48 Saratoga Ave. at the corner of Lawrence Street late into the night on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson said the direction of the investigation might be determined by the result of an autopsy.
Police are hoping to release more information on Wednesday.
