Members
of the Yonkers Police Reform Committee released its public safety reform report
following five months of discussions.
The
report contains 22 areas where the group says the police department needs to
improve.
Changes
listed include bringing in a more diverse pool of police candidates, improving
options for reporting discriminatory stops and searches and providing more
mental health support for officers.
The
report comes eight months after Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order
after a summer of calls for racial equality.
News
12 is told the purpose is to develop plans to eliminate racial inequalities in
policing and create stronger trust between officers and the community -
particularly those of color.
