A roundtable discussion was held in Yorktown Friday on the substance abuse crisis that is impacting the community.

Hudson Valley Assemblyman Matt Slater introduced his "Death by Dealer" legislation. The proposed law is focused on targeting sellers and manufacturers rather than individuals struggling with addiction.

Rep. Mike Lawler said he's lending his support as he pushes for similar bills at the federal level.

"In 2022, over 70,000 Americans died from fentanyl overdose. One-hundred-thousand Americans died from overdose in general. It is a crisis," Lawler said.

As many as eight new bills were discussed to curb drug trafficking and get help to those who are struggling with addiction.

All who attended the discussion agreed that this public health crisis requires partnership across sectors and political lines.
