It's an all-hands-on-deck situation in Yorktown as the community works to repair the damage from this morning's storms.

Greenwood Street is among several roads that have been closed off as NYSEG crews are actively working to restore power lines affected by a fallen tree.

Additionally, ponding on the sides of the roads has made driving conditions more hazardous, requiring drivers to proceed with extra caution. Smoke was seen emanating from the creek area beneath the road, which Town Supervisor Ed Lackerman believes was caused by a brush fire resulting from downed power lines.

In discussing the storm's impact, Lackerman highlighted the severity of the thunder and lightning, noting that it not only affected the roads but also nearby homes. "We had to have the chief of police respond to a transformer fire because a house was struck by lightning simultaneously. They had to ensure everyone was safe and evacuated from the residence," he said.

Crews from NYSEG and Con Edison, along with the fire and police departments, are continuing the cleanup efforts around town. Residents are advised to slow down and give the crews space as they work to restore normalcy and ensure safety.
