Police in Yorktown are warning residents to beware of two distraction scams that happened recently.

They say the first incident happened in a Jefferson Valley bank parking lot. Police say a woman told a senior citizen who had just withdrawn money not to back up her car because there was something behind the tire. That's when a man approached the car and grabbed the envelope with money in it.

The second incident was in Yorktown Heights at a supermarket parking lot. Police a male and female appeared to be selling jewelry. The man encouraged a senior citizen to try on a necklace. They say that's when his accomplice helped the woman put it on and then stole the necklace the woman was already wearing.

Briarcliffe police say the people involved have been caught and were also involved in a crime in that area.

Police say be aware of your surroundings and be suspicious if someone approaches you in a parking lot.
