A Washington state resident is dead and another 12 people were injured after the van they were riding in crashed on I-287 this morning.
State troopers say the van was packed with day laborers on their way to work from Connecticut when it lost control, flipped over and struck a tree on the westbound side of the interstate near exit 8.
A 22-year-old passenger died at the scene and the others were taken to local hospitals with broken bones, cuts and bruises.
Investigators believe a combination of wet roadways, speed and worn-down tires contributed to the crash, but the cause remains under investigation.
