Rockland County plans to help over 19,000 households who rely on SNAP benefits.
County officials say $1 million will go toward helping SNAP users through this Friday.
70% is going toward food pantry grants, while 30% is being used on food distribution events.
That money is half of the total amount authorized by the county legislature and executive.
The other million will be used the following week if the shutdown continues.
The Regional Food Bank is also seeking volunteers to help with the events.
Several of the events are planned to take place this week.
