Two people injured in a partial building collapse in Yonkers on Friday have been released from the hospital, according to Yonkers Fire Department officials.

Emergency crews said the two individuals were on the third floor of the North Broadway building when a floor and wall on the first floor collapsed into a vacant basement.

They said they sustained minor injuries and had to be taken out of the building using a bucket tower ladder.

Emergency crews were still busy Saturday morning dealing with the aftermath of the partial collapse. Police closed off access to a portion of North Broadway to allow fire crews and engineers to assess the situation.

Yonkers fire officials said they had a crew present on fire watch to help make sure the scene was safe for engineers. Fire officials said engineers want to decide within the next 24 hours about whether to repair it or tear the building down.

Richard Cleveland, a man who News 12 spotted near the scene on Saturday, said he believes crews shouldn't knock the building down.

"If it's reasonable to repair it, then repair it," Cleveland said. "The facade, and all of that there, they don't make that anymore.”

Yonkers fire officials also told News 12 that the buildings that surrounding the area are structurally safe. However, they did note that a portion of the building that partially collapsed sits on top of the Saw Mill River.

They said the building is well over 100 years old and believe the foundation may have eroded over time.
