Organization addresses rising rate of suicide within the Black community

September is Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, and a local mental health organization is addressing the rising rate of suicide within the Black community with a faith-based workshop.
The program is called Soul Shop for Black Churches.
It's offered by the Hudson Valley and Westchester County chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Pat White is the chapter's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion chair. She said trainers from the chapter teach church leaders how to minister to members of their congregation who have been impacted by suicide.
"Our pastors are the best messengers really to deliver that word. So, for the past three years, we have been working intentionally with our faith community to really bring faith and the intersectionality of mental health forward in Westchester County," White said.
