Guttenberg passes new ordinance to allow Airbnb rentals ahead of World Cup

The city was previously largely against Airbnb rentals – especially in buildings with condos.

As many municipalities in New Jersey move to restrict short-term rentals, the city of Guttenberg is embracing them as the FIFA World Cup event approaches.

The city was previously largely against Airbnb rentals – especially in buildings with condos. But things have changed with the biggest sporting event happening at nearby MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

"We passed a new ordinance stating that if you own an occupied property with two or three units, you're able to rent those out to Airbnb,” says Guttenberg Mayor Wayne Zitt

Airbnb estimates that 25,000 guests will be staying in the area for the World Cup.
