Residents in Building 5 at Bridgeport’s Greene Homes community say the broken elevator in their seven-story complex has left them feeling "trapped" in their own homes.

Maria Carrasquillo, who's recovering from foot surgery, says the outage has turned the building into a "prison" and forced her to miss medical appointments.

"We can't go on like this. It's morally wrong and totally unfair -- especially to people who are disabled," she said.

Residents report a history of frequent, long-term outages, and they're demanding "immediate action."

Bridgeport housing officials say their vendor, Champion Elevator, has ordered the parts needed to fix the elevator.

"We are deploying all of our resources to make sure the elevator gets fixed as soon as possible," officials said.
