Red Cross assisting family following Claremont apartment fire

A fire erupted on the roof of an apartment building in East New York, the FDNY says.

Firefighters responded to the 14-story building at 2817 Atlantic Ave. just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Citizen app footage shows thick black smoke billowing from the building as firefighters climb to reach the blaze.

Fire officials say crews contained the blaze in just over 20 minutes.

No one was injured.
