Authorities have made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run investigation that began two days after Christmas.
Hudson County Prosecutor announced the arrest of Tomas Amelcolima, 42, of West New York, in connection with a collision that killed an 83-year-old Union City woman in late 2025.
The investigation dates back to Dec. 27, 2025. At approximately 5:40 p.m., Union City police were called to the intersection of 30th Street and Palisades Avenue on reports of a pedestrian struck.
Officers arrived to find Fabiola Bedoya, 83, suffering from life-threatening injuries. The vehicle involved had already fled the scene. Bedoya was pronounced deceased shortly after 6:15 p.m.
Following a four-month investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit, Amelcolima was arrested on April 21, 2026. He was taken into custody at the prosecutor’s office in Jersey City.
Amelcolima faces several serious felony charges. Second-degree death by auto and second-degree knowingly leaving the scene.
The defendant was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he is currently awaiting his first court appearance.
