It was hot all across Long Island Thursday, and many people were trying to find ways to stay cool -- from splash pads to cooling centers to a trip to the beach.

“We were sweltering,” said Angelo Rega, of Island Park. “So it was nice to get in the cold water.”

Temperatures and humidity were high Thursday, driving people indoors or to the water.

“The AC broke down, and I was sitting there sweating,” said Joseph Kogan, of Hewlett. “I had to come to the beach today, with my beautiful friends over here and make the most of it.”

People in Long Beach say the cool breeze was a welcome relief. And while the ocean itself was still too cold for some, others took full advantage of any opportunity to beat the heat.

Others say they want to enjoy the hot weather while they still can.

“Take advantage of it,” Rega said. “Because before you know it, we're going to be seeing snow again.”
