Yonkers Montessori Academy Lady Eagles girls basketball team makes historic championship win
According to head girls basketball coach Elie Moise, the YMA Lady Eagles are the first girls sports team to ever win a state championship in Yonkers.

The Yonkers Montessori Academy Lady Eagles followed the New York Knicks' historic NBA Championship as the girls' basketball team was honored Tuesday for winning the Class B Championship.
Their victory marked the first state basketball championship the district has won in 94 years.
Local elected officials, Stew Leonard's and Knicks legend Walt "Clyde" Frazier all came out to honor the Lady Eagles Girls.
This is the first basketball championship that the district has won since 1932, when the Yonkers High School boys basketball team last captured the state title.

"Even when we were down, even when we were up, we never got complacent. We never gave up. We just stayed together as a team and we pushed for the win," said player Liliana Toro.
"I'm telling you. You can do whatever you want to do. It's not easy. You have got to work at it. Just like you became champions because you had a plan. In life, people don't plan to fail; they fail to plan," said basketball Hall of Famer Fraizer.
The team won 65 to 60 in overtime against Chenango Forks High School after a nail-biting back-and-forth game.
