Multiple officers and an NYPD sergeant were struck by a car on Sunday, causing another officer to shoot the driver, according to the NYPD.
Officers attempted to stop the 18-year-old driver on East Fordham Road in Fordham while responding to an alert for a stolen vehicle just before 6 p.m. Sunday.
A Glock .22 with an extended magazine was later recovered inside the vehicle.
Police say officers were first alerted about the stolen vehicle traveling through Washington Heights at around 5:35 p.m. Ten minutes later, the vehicle was in the Bronx.
Six unmarked NYPD vehicles surrounded the Kia sedan, attempting to stop it. The NYPD says members of its Community Response Team instructed the passengers inside the car to exit multiple times.
The driver then suddenly put the car in reverse, plowing into the officers and the unmarked police cars.
Police say the car then drove forward and hit a sergeant, knocking him to the ground.
One officer jumped onto the car while it was attempting to take off and fired at the driver, striking him in the arm.
The sergeant, several other injured officers and the teen driver were taken to nearby hospitals. Police say they are all expected to recover.
No official charges have been released against the 18-year-old as of Monday evening.
The NYPD says the teen was arrested in February in connection with a separate incident. He was accused of shooting another man and charged with attempted felony assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a firearm.
