The annual Ossining RiverJam festival is back Thursday evening, bringing live music, food and fireworks to the waterfront.

The event takes place at Louis Engel Waterfront Park and is expected to draw thousands of people. This year, however, organizers say safety is top of mind when it comes to the dangerous heat.

"We have Ossining Volunteer Ambulance on site. They'll be going around and if people have any issues, they can attend to those people," said Bill Garrison, superintendent of the Ossining Recreation and Parks.

Organizers are encouraging attendees to come prepared for the heat.

"Bring some fans if you've got them, that's what I'm doing and, you know, just take care of yourself," said Gregory Young, vice president of the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce.

RiverJam festivities begin at 5 p.m. with live musical performances. There will also be a reading of the Declaration of Independence and a fireworks show to end the night.

Officials say extra handicapped parking spaces were made available this year as a precaution because of the extreme temperatures.
