WEATHER HEADLINES: RIP CURRENT RISK PLUS HOT AND VERY HUMID WEATHER RETURNS THURSDAY INTO WEEKEND

RIP CURRENT RISK

There are some slight improvements expected for today, but the risk will still be moderate to borderline high. A high risk of dangerous rip currents is also expected for Thursday for at least parts of the South Shore. Always be sure to swim where a lifeguard is on duty. Southeast wave swells around 3 feet will create changing water conditions at the Ocean beaches. If you get caught in a rip current, don't panic. Break the Grip of the Rip. Swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the rip current.

Mostly sunny skies will get us started today before a few afternoon clouds drift in. A spotty shower or two after 4pm. It will be another warm summer day, with high temperatures reaching the lower 80s. The UV index will be high, so be sure to use sunscreen and stay protected if you're spending time outdoors. If you're heading to the south shore beaches, be mindful of the risk for rip currents and always swim near a lifeguard.

Tonight, a couple of scattered showers may develop as the air turns warmer and more humid. Overnight lows will only fall into the 70s, making for a muggy night. Areas of patchy fog could also develop by daybreak, so motorists should be prepared for reduced visibility early Thursday morning.

Thursday starts with the chance for a lingering morning shower before skies become mostly sunny. Another isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm can't be ruled out, but many locations will stay dry. It'll be warm to hot, with afternoon highs climbing into the mid-80s. Combined with the humidity, it could feel more like the mid-90s to lows 100s. Thursday night remains warm and muggy, with lows in the 70s and the chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm.

Friday brings a mix of sunshine and afternoon clouds, along with the possibility of a few spotty showers and thunderstorms later in the day. High temperatures will be in the 80s to low 90s, but the humidity will once again push feels-like temperatures into the mid-upper 90s to low 100s. A Heat Advisory may be needed for both Thursday and Friday. A heat advisory is issued when the Heat Index is 95 degrees or higher for two days in a row. A Heat Warning is issuedd when the heat index is 100 degrees or higher for more than 2 hours. Looking ahead to the weekend, expect more hot and humid weather with highs in the 80s and the daily chance for a few pop-up afternoon thunderstorms.
