Greenburgh schools are operating on a three-hour delay and Edgemont schools are operating on a two-hour delay after a major water valve break disrupted service in parts of the town.

Officials say a 16-inch valve near 836 Central Park Avenue and Ardsley Road failed Thursday afternoon, affecting water service in Edgemont, Hartsdale and Fairview.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said residents reported losing water during the afternoon and evening hours as crews worked to isolate and repair the break. The damage proved more extensive than initially believed, keeping crews on scene throughout the night.

A worker at the scene told News 12 on Friday that water service has been restored, but residents may experience low water pressure for the next couple of hours as the system gradually returns to normal.

The break began around 2 p.m. Thursday, and crews worked overnight to complete repairs.

Officials have not yet determined whether a boil-water advisory will be needed. Town leaders say they will consult with the county health department and provide residents with an update if an advisory is required. Greenburgh schoool district says it could switch to remote learning if it can’t safely open its buildings.
