The Save Mount Vernon group is calling for a full investigation into alleged corruption and financial discrepancies at the Mount Vernon Public Library.
A formal complaint was submitted to the Westchester District Attorney's Office on Wednesday by the organizers. They are claiming mismanagement, neglect and corruption by some members of the library's board of trustees.
A preliminary report released by a financial consultant firm hired by the library found 1,400 transactions totaling more than $50,000 "that are not consistent with the library's normal course of business."
“The leadership here in Mount Vernon is lacking again,” says Save Mount Vernon organizer Jesse Van Lew. “We need answers.”
The library lost its nonprofit status three years ago.
