New York Attorney General Letitia James is calling on the U.S. Department of Transportation to address the recent surge in airline cancellations and delays.

James is urging the Federal Aviation Administration to stop airlines from selling tickets for flights they can't provide on time.

She says during the first half of the year, 33% more flights were canceled than from the same time in 2019.

New York airports have had some of the highest summer cancellation rates in the U.S.

Some Democratic senators have proposed a bill that would require airlines to offer customers a full cash refund within a month for flights canceled or significantly delayed less than 48 hours before departure.

Customers are currently entitled to refunds, but many airlines rebook flights or give vouchers instead.
