A federal government program that mails Americans free COVID-19 test kits is over effective Friday.
Under the program, every household could get up to 16 free tests sent to them.
People were able to order them through a website which now displays a banner saying the program stopped Sept. 2.
The funding from Congress for the test kits ran out.
Some elected leaders, like Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, say it's urgent for the funding be restored ahead of a possible winter COVID-19 surge.
However, there hasn't been any official talk of the program starting up again.
