Rockland-based Pfizer saying an Omicron-specific vaccine will be ready in several weeks.
On CNBC today, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said that the Omicron-specific vaccine will be ready in March and that the company has already begun manufacturing doses.
Bourla says Pfizer's primary vaccine with a booster shot increases antibody levels capable of fighting off Omicron 25-fold. Whether that's enough will be looked at over the next several weeks.
A Pfizer spokesperson tells News 12 that in the event that their current vaccine and booster are not found to protect against the Omicron variant or other future variants, Pfizer expects “to be able to develop and produce a tailor-made vaccine against that variant in approximately 100 days, subject to regulatory approval."
