A Suffern family received a loud wake-up call Thursday morning when police say a drunken driver slammed into a Ramapo Avenue home.
"I heard like a big bang," says homeowner Mirella Cosentino. "I thought an earthquake came or something happened. I wasn't sure what happened."
The family found three people trapped in an SUV that had crashed into the home. According to police, the driver may not have tried to stop his car because skid marks were not present on the street or sidewalk.
Jorge Sanchez, 23, was arraigned at his bedside in the hospital on DWI and vehicular assault charges. His bail was set at $15,000. Sanchez's two cousins, who are brothers, remain in critical condition. The three men are from Airmont.
A building inspector is trying to determine whether the Cosentinos? home is structurally sound. In addition to damage to the side of the house, interior walls are also cracked.
