A federal appeals court has ruled against a former publisher and political activist who wanted to buy guns.

Sam Zherka was previously convicted of making a false statement to a bank and filing false tax returns. He argued that because those were nonviolent felonies, he should be allowed to own firearms.

The court ruled the Second Amendment does not prevent Congress from disarming convicted felons. That decision upholds a lower court ruling.

Zherka says he plans to take his case to the Supreme Court.
