The elevator at 2727 Decatur Ave. has been out of service for months leaving 8 floors of tenants without an elevator. There are many residents in the building who are disabled or have medical conditions impacting their mobility. Resident Lakia Regin who says she's had multiple surgeries in her leg describes what it's been like living on the 6th floor with no elevator. "It's painful we were upstairs the other day my neighbor and I crying," says Regin. Tenants Tamika on the fourth floor says to do laundry she has to throw garbage bags of clothes down the flights of stairs and relies on her neighbors for help. "We help each other out. Together we've been working together because this is every day for almost three months now," says Tamika. News 12 reached out to Wavecrest management and received the following statement saying "Ensuring accessibility for all residents is a top priority for Wavecrest Management. When the elevator outage first occurred, we immediately contacted our third-party elevator contractor to evaluate necessary repairs. The elevator’s motor, which is no longer manufactured, required specialized parts to repair. While awaiting these parts, the super has remained on-site 24/7 to assist residents with packages and stairs, supported by two additional runners. Our contractor has now secured the required parts to fix the motor, and we expect the elevator to be fully operational by tomorrow morning."
