A bias incident at Suffern High School nearly a month ago has county lawmakers taking action.

Ramapo Freshman Center basketball team members entered the locker room at Suffern High School to find the "n" word scrawled on a blackboard and a stick figure depicting a hanging. Legislator David Fried (D-Spring Valley) is taking action for the future. He is creating a protocol for Rockland's Human Rights Commission on how the county can respond when incidents like that happen. The hope is that the incident can prove to be a learning opportunity throughout the county.

In the coming weeks the Legislature is expected to start drafting the proposal for the protocol and the public?s input is welcome. So far, no one has been charged in connection to the bias incident.
