While it is still quite cold out, the winds are backing down a little today and tomorrow, compared to earlier in the week.
The feels-like temps are still going to make you want to grab that winter coat, hat and scarf, but at least you can be outside and not have it be completely unbearable. That will change though by Thursday afternoon into Friday.
Wednesday will be cold with temperatures getting closer to the upper 30s to low 40s. Sunshine in the morning will get covered by clouds rolling in through the afternoon as a storm system approaches.
There will be a chance of seeing some snow showers north of I-84 as the system approaches Wednesday evening. The bulk of the shower activity though will arrive late in the night and last through the overnight hours into Thursday morning.
A slushy wintry mix will fall down for all with a chance of seeing a coating of accumulations on some of the grassy surfaces and elevated areas. While this doesn't seem like much, it is enough to make the roads slick and that could lead to accidents and traffic delays Thursday morning during the commute.
It is advised to take it easy on the roads and walkways, especially on any untreated surfaces.
As the system moves through, and leaves the region, gusty winds will pick up towards 45-50 mph. This could lead to unsecure holiday decorations to be tossed around, other loose items, as well as take down tree branches that could impact power lines.
A wind advisory is in effect for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, as those gusts will be increasing to those heighten levels.
The winds will make the air feel frigid Thursday afternoon and through the day on Friday, which will be the coldest day this week.
Feels like temps will go down from the 30s to the 20s during the day and be even colder at night. Thankfully, the winds will be backing down Saturday evening, allowing Sunday to be more bearable.
The temps are anticipated to get back into the 40s as well. Another chance for shower activity arrives Monday into Tuesday of next week.
