A Rockland County neighborhood is on edge tonight as police investigate a reported attempted kidnapping. Investigators say a 10-year-old boy was walking home from school yesterday along North Troop Road at Garfield Street in Blauvelt when it happened. The boy's parents tell police that the stranger tried to lure their son into his pickup truck by offering him a ride home. The boy said he didn't know him and kept walking. That's when the man allegedly got more aggressive and pulled in front of the boy, opening his truck door. The boy then ran to a nearby house, where an adult called police.
Today, many Blauvelt parents weren't taking any risks. Some waited in their cars at school bus stops or picked up their children after school.
Investigators say they're looking for a suspect who may be in his 30s, with short brown hair and a goatee. He drives a dark blue, two-door, full-size pickup truck with white New York State license plates, police say.
