A blood drive was held in Florida Friday to support an EMT that was seriously injured when her ambulance crashed in West Nyack earlier in the week.

A flatbed truck collided with the ambulance Bonnie Ames was riding in on Route 59 Monday. The impact ripped the ambulance apart, sending both Ames and her partner, who was driving, to the hospital. Ames' right arm was so badly damaged that doctors could not save it.

Ames, 21, will most likely need more surgery. Her co-workers rallied around her and organized the blood drive.

?Whether you're EMS, fire, law enforcement, we're all a family,? says James Ferguson, of Montgomery. ?And it's very important that we help each other.?

Ames? comrades hope not only to help her, but they hope the blood donations will help many more people.
