Blumenthal: Gun law a good start, more need to be done
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D) says that the new gun legislation signed into law yesterday by President Biden is a good start but fall short of more restrictive gun control that Democrats want.
Saturday, President Biden signs the first federal gun control measure in 30 years.
Crafted in part by Sen. Chris Murphy (D) the bill it will make it harder for those ages 18 to 21 to buy a gun and provide state incentives to include juvenile records in the national criminal background check system.
While Democrats wanted stricter measures, Blumenthal says he is happy that something got done. "This day is historic as the President of the United States has signed a gun violence protection bill finally passed by the Congress after 30 years of inaction, hundreds of thousands of deaths and dozens of failed legislative initiatives, we're moving forward."
